Dear Sir/Madam:

The Second International Earth Science Olympiad will be held from Aug 31 to Sept 8, 2008 in Manila and the Bicol Province, home to the majestic perfect-cone volcano. The theme of the Olympiad is “Cooptition in Addressing Climate Change.” This is will not only be a venue for assessing the gifted students in the Earth Systems Science but also a platform in addressing one of the defining issues of our time -- Climate change. The Organizing Committee warmly invites you all to come and enjoy IESO in the Philippines.

According to the IESO statutes, each participating country may send a national delegation of 4 high school students, not older than 18 years old by July 1, 2008 and two mentors who are Earth Science teachers and/or Earth Science experts. The team need to pay a registration fee of 1,200 USD and must shoulder their round-trip airfare. The registration fee is waived for developing country participants. All other expenses will be shouldered by the host country, including food, accommodation, transportation, etc. Observers and guests accompanying the delegations will be cordially welcomed; however, they need to pay registration fee of 1000 USD per observer/guest.
